Since 1970, the motives of the Christmas plates from Rörstrand are inspired by Selma Lagerlöf's book "The Wonderful Adventures of Nils" telling about Nils Holgersson's wonderful journey across Sweden. The Christmas plate from 1975 depicts an old ironworks by a river in the mining district of Västmanland, with the owner's homestead close by. The iron ore is carried by an overhead transporter device, which is also seen on the plate, from the mine to the blast-furnace where the ore is smelted. We can also see Nils Holgersson himself and the bear whose cubs he played with when he and Akka the goose stay here during their long journey.
Rörstrand's Christmas plates are made using underglaze and are suitable for serving food. They can be used as beautiful table decoration, in collages on the wall, or placed in plate holders in display cabinets or similar. The possibilities for their use are numerous, and only one's imagination sets the limits.
