About the product
1954 Royal Copenhagen Christmas plate, designed by Kaj Lange, has as its motif Amalienborg Palace with the equestrian of King Frederik V. Royal Copenhagen's Christmas plate from 1954 depicts Amalienborg castle. This rokoko castle, which includes four almost identical palaces encircling the octagonal square, where Saly's statue of king Frederik V, the builder of Amalienborg, is placed in the centre. King Frederik V did not live in the castle. Not until Christian VII became the king of Denmark did the palace become the home of the royal family. Christian VII took over Amalienborg as his residence in 1794, and ever since, this palace has been the residence of the royal family. On the plate we see one of the king's guards. looking at the sculpture. >The changing of the guards has over the years become a major attraction.
