About the product
Royal Copenhagen Portraits of Old Copenhagen plate no.12 Year of issue: 1980 Motif: Charlottenborg Designed by: Mads Stage 1977
Plate number twelve in a series of twelve. Charlottenborg Palace, former Gyldenloeves' Palace, is built in 1671 on behalf of Ulrik Frederik Gyldenloeve (half-brother of the king Christian V) Lambert van Haven was in charge of the building activities. The Palace was renamed after Queen Charlotte Amalie, who died on the Palace in 1714. Today the palace is housing the Royal Art Academy and various big art- exhibitions.
Copenhagen Prospects was issued in three sets of four over three years from 1978 to 1980. It was Mads Stage, who drew the drawings of the historic buildings for Royal Copenhagen. The rim of the plates, which surrounds the motifs in gold, are inspired by the cast iron fench that surrounds the top of The Round Tower. It was both a technical and artistic challenge for Royal Copenhagen to transfer the delicate and light watercolour drawings to the porcelain and therefore Copenhagen Prospects is an example of the level artistic abilities in 1980. The oranamental plates can be used both as table plates for the festive table and as decoration for the walls in the living room. Then you will also have a practical and decorative means of storage, when the plates are not in use.
