About the product
Royal Copenhagen Portraits of Old Copenhagen plate with the Gate to the Citadel, the Zealand gate. Year of issue: 1979 Designed by: Mads Stage
The citadel is one of Europes best preserved fortifications. King Christian IV began construction on the fortifications in 1626 as he wanted to extend ramparts around Copenhagen and King Frederik III expanded on his predecessors work by hirering the Dutch engineer Henrik Rüse.
Copenhagen Prospects was issued in three sets of four over three years from 1978 to 1980. It was Mads Stage, who drew the drawings of the historic buildings for Royal Copenhagen. The rim of the plates, which surrounds the motifs in gold, are inspired by the cast iron fench that surrounds the top of The Round Tower. It was both a technical and artistic challenge for Royal Copenhagen to transfer the delicate and light watercolour drawings to the porcelain and therefore Copenhagen Prospects is an example of the level artistic abilities in 1980. The oranamental plates can be used both as table plates for the festive table and as decoration for the walls in the living room. Then you will also have a practical and decorative means of storage, when the plates are not in use.
