About the product
1971 Holmegaard Ship's plate with motif of the Full-Rigger Frederik the Sixth. The motif was reproduce after a painting of watercolour by Jacob Petersen in 1829. This beautiful frigate had a very eventful past : Of English origin bearing the name Fort William, she was conquered in 1796 by the French off Mauritius, the former Isle of France. In 1798 she was bought by the Danish merchants Selbye & Terborch as a substitute for Christianshavn, who had been lost at sea. Fort William was renamed Christianshavn, under which name she was sold to the Asiatic Company in the year 1800. She was put in the China service, going out to Canton in 1801-02, 1803-05, 1806-07 and some years after the war she went again to the Far East, in 1819-21 and in 1826-27. In 1828 the frigate was submitted to a complete overhaul at the expense of the government, and as a due recognition, she was renamed Frederik the Sixth. Under this name the ship undertook her last voyages to China in 1829-30 and 1833-34 when the Asiatic company ceased to operate.
