About the product
The motif of this 1976 Desiree Christmas plate from the Porcelain Factory Desiree, also known as Désirée Denmark, Svend Jensen of Denmark, Old Copenhagen Blue is coming from the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale The Snow Queen. In the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale named "The Snow Queen" an evil ogre has invented a magic mirror which reflects the bad things in people. The mirror is being shattered and the splinters are spread everywhere. One day in the winter a small boy named Kaj is playing in the square together with his friends. The children tie their sledges to the farmer's wagons who give them a drive in the snow. Kaj ties his sledge to a wagon too, but the wagon drives out of town and he finds out that the driver is the Snow Queen. She is created of splinters from the magic mirror. The motif of the 1976 Christmas plate shows how the Snow Queen is carrying Kaj out of town on his sledge while snow crystals drift around Kaj so it is impossible for him to see anything. The 1976 Desirée Christmas plate was designed by Mads Stage. Désirée started the Christmas plate series in 1970 and ended it in 2002. All motifs of the Hans Christian Andersen Christmas plates from Désirée were inspired by Hans Christian Andersen´s Fairy Tales
