About the product
The motif of this 1972 Desiree Christmas plate from the Porcelain Factory Desiree, also known as Désirée Denmark, Svend Jensen of Denmark, Old Copenhagen Blue comes from the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale The Little Mermaid. In 1972 the Desirée Christmas plate shows the sculpture of The Little Mermaid. This sculpture has is situated on the street Langelinie in Copenhagen and has been since from 1913. We see the buildings in Copenhagen in the background and The Little Mermaid is longingly looking at them. According to the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale The Little Mermaid is longing for the beautiful prince, whom she saved from drowning. She goes to the surface of the water to admire him many times. The Desiree Christmas plate 1972 was designed by Edvard Eriksen. Désirée started the Christmas plate series in 1970 and ended it in 2002. All motifs of the Desiree Christmas plates were inspired by Hans Christian Andersen´s Fairy Tales.
