About the product
Plate No. 10 in the Danish Steamship Friends series titled "Danish Steamships" The porcelain plate was designed by Bertina Kærager and produced by Jorn Jacobsen Copenhagen Denmark.
Information on the back of the plate:
The paddle steamer "Fritz Juel" was built by B&W in 1873 for the connection between Svendborg and Taasinge. Fritz Juel was essentially just a barge with a sort of command bridge built over the paddle boxes on each side. From here, the captain could control the ferry in the open air. The only communication to the engineer was through a speaking tube. The funnel stood tall next to one of these paddle boxes. Fritz Juel continued to sail as a reserve vessel during World War II but was later scrapped - however, the steam engine itself and one paddle wheel are preserved at the B&W Museum.
