Plate No. 6 in the Danish Steamship Friends series titled "Danish Steamships" The porcelain plate was designed by Bertina Kærager and produced by Millhouse.
Information on the back of the plate:
The first paddle steamer "Caledonia" was built in Scotland in 1815 and came under the Danish flag on the Oresund as early as 1819. It quickly received company from a large number of Øresund steamers, including the "Hamlet" built in England in 1857. Hamlet was 57 feet long and its steam engine produced 62 horsepower. Throughout the rest of the 19th century, paddle steamers evolved from small wooden ships into large and very fast iron ships and ferries, but they were not suitable for ice, and around the turn of the century, they were completely outcompeted by scew steamers.
