About the item
Bing & Grøndahl Christmas plate 1990 with the motif Changing of the Guard at Fredensborg Palace combines Danish Christmas tradition, royal history and the classic blue-and-white porcelain expression that has made the series beloved through generations. In this edition, one encounters an atmospheric winter motif, where the Royal Life Guards move forward in front of Fredensborg Palace's characteristic facade, while the snow lies quietly in the palace courtyard and the stars shine over the scene.

Changing of the Guard at Fredensborg Palace is a title that immediately leads the thoughts toward ceremony, tradition and Danish cultural heritage. On the plate, the guards are seen in procession through the snow-covered setting, and the motif gains a special calm and solemnity in the interplay between the dark blue shades and the light details. The palace's architecture forms a striking background, and the scene captures beautifully the blend of order, history and winter stillness that makes this particular edition so memorable.

Fredensborg Palace is one of the best-known royal palaces in Denmark and has over time formed the setting for both stays, traditions and official events. Therefore, this Christmas plate contains more than a beautiful winter motif; it also tells a story about the monarchy, the life guards and the ceremonies that still resonate in the Danish consciousness. The design was created by Edvard Jensen, who with a sure hand has created a composition in which movement and architecture are beautifully balanced in the round format.

Bing & Grøndahl's Christmas plate series began in 1895 and was thus the world's first Christmas plate series. Since 1895, a new plate has been issued every year, and each edition was produced in a limited quantity. After the year's final firing, the mold was destroyed, which makes each version a completed edition with its own place in the series' long history.

As this plate is from 1990, it cannot only hang out in December. It is also suitable as a small plate, for example for dessert or Christmas cake, and during the Christmas season it adds a special atmosphere to the table with its classic royal motif. At the same time, it is a fine choice for the collector or as a gift for someone who is fond of Danish porcelain, Christmas plates and historical motifs with lasting appeal. On the back there are two holes for hanging, so it can easily be included as part of the Christmas decoration.
