Royal Copenhagen figurine no. 1761 The Flight to America boy and girl

Royal Copenhagen figurine no. 1761 titled The Flight to America is an atmospheric porcelain figurine that depicts a boy and a girl close together on the journey. The motif contains both movement, seriousness and care, and that is precisely what makes the figurine strong as a narrative children's figurine. The two children stand side by side, with the boy holding his arm around the girl, while she carries a book or folder under her arm and holds a pretzel in her hand. This gives the figurine a fine everyday character and a story that arouses curiosity.

The figurine is designed by Christian Thomsen and made in porcelain with underglaze. The muted blue-grey shades, the light faces and the soft shapes help to emphasize Royal Copenhagen's special ability to unite emotion, craftsmanship and character in porcelain figurines. The girl's checked dress and the boy's dark jacket and light trousers are modelled with confident details that bring the motif to life without seeming heavy.

As a collector's figurine, The Flight to America has a special appeal because the motif not only shows children, but also conveys a story. This makes it ideal for collectors of Royal Copenhagen figurines, children's figurines and classic porcelain figurines by Christian Thomsen. At the same time, it is a figurine that can stand beautifully alone in a display cabinet, on a shelf or as part of a larger collection of Danish porcelain figurines.

Older porcelain figurines like this have a soul of their own that makes them relevant also in a modern home. Choosing vintage porcelain is at the same time a way to preserve good craftsmanship and let quality design live on through generations. The figurine adds personality, history and a calm classic expression to the interior.
