Bing & Grøndahl polar bear figurine 1954 or 442 Niels Nielsen

This large polar bear figurine from Bing & Grøndahl has a calm, almost thoughtful expression, which gives the motif weight and presence. The polar bear sits with its body gathered and its head lifted slightly upward, creating a fine balance between strength and calm. The white glaze with soft grey tones at the snout, eyes, and paws highlights the figurine's form and brings life to the surface.

The figurine is designed by Niels Nielsen, who is known for his animal figurines with a sure sense of anatomy and movement. Here, the polar bear is modelled with broad paws, a powerful body, and an alert gaze, so the figurine appears both naturalistic and decorative. The large size makes it striking in the interior, where it works beautifully alone on a shelf, sideboard, or in a display cabinet, but it can also be combined with other porcelain figurines and Nordic collector's items.

Bing & Grøndahl polar bear figurine no. 1954, also known as no. 442, is a sought-after collector's piece for many who are interested in Danish porcelain, animal figurines, and classic Scandinavian design. It is referred to as the largest of the polar bear figurines that Bing & Grøndahl and Royal Copenhagen have produced, and precisely for that reason it holds a special place among collectors. At the same time, it is a figurine that fits beautifully into a modern home, where older porcelain with history and quality adds personality and character.

It is a porcelain figurine that you notice immediately. It is well suited as a gift for the collector, for the design enthusiast, or for the person who loves animals in art and decorative arts. A large Bing & Grøndahl figurine like this combines craftsmanship, Danish design tradition, and lasting decorative value.
