Father's Day plates from Egemose Decoration
In 1972 Egemose Porcelain in Næstved produced the first Danish father's day plate.
The title of Egemose Father's Day plates was Old Crafts and Business and the motifs are depicting as different things as an old village smithy, sea fishing, harvesting with reaper-binder, a mason, a carpenter, forestry, an old printing press, a shoe-repair shop, a watchmaker workshop, a tailor, a potter and a porcelain painter .
Prior to each plate was a careful preparation as the motifs are extremely detailed. Looking at the Egemose Father's Day plate from 1981, that shows a watchmakers workshop, you should notice all the many remedies that are scattered throughout the workshop. The watchmaker works concentrated on an old clockwork and around him on the table and the window sill, are various nuts, bolts, a compass, screwdrivers and scissors. Everything is within reach and around the watchmaker is a lot of other watches, waiting for their turn.
Although the Egemose Father's Day plates illustrate the work in the old days, they can be great gift ideas for Father's Day, Christmas or a birthdays. As a gift to a farmer, the Egemose Father's Day plate from 1974 would be an obvious choice. The plate shows a farmer who has started harvesting on his old harvesting machine. Even though the time of this harvesting machine is way past, and the contrast to today's harvesting machinery is huge, this is just a reminder of how it all started and that love to the land and harvesting has been there for generations. Driving with the old machine was hard, hot and took a lot of time, but both then as now, there is a special spirit connected with harvesting.
The basic colour of the Egemose Father's Day plates are white with brown drawings, surrounded by a decorative border with an important tool for the respective craft or profession.
Egemose Porcelain has also released a beautiful series of Mother's Day plates, which are quite different from the Father's Day plates. The Mother's Day plates are colourful with a lot of flowers.
