In 1989 Bing & Grondahl started a new series of Christmas plates, which is significantly different to the famous blue Christmas plates that B&G was the first to launch in 1895. The new Christmas plate series was called Santa Claus and depicts Santa's doings around Christmas time. B&G Santa Claus series was issued over a period of 6 years - from 1989 to 1994.
The first Bing & Grondahl Santa Claus Christmas plate shows Santa's workshop, where his industrious helpers are in the process of producing all the gifts to be brought around to the world's children on Christmas Eve. In Santa's workshop all toys that a child could want are being manufactured. Dolls, drum sets, locomotives, doll houses and much more are manufactured here.
In 1990, we see Santa's sleigh with all the lovely Christmas gifts, which are now ready to be distributed worldwide. The Sleigh is ready for departure and Santa's helpers are ready to give it a push in the right direction. Most of us imagine that Santa's sleigh is pulled by reindeer, but on the B&G Santa Claus Christmas plate, the artist has chosen to place a horse in front of the sleigh.
In 1991, Santa Claus came out on his route and fly over the snow-covered roofs.
On the Santa Claus Christmas plate by Bing & Grondahl 1992, Santa Claus arrived at the chimney, of course, with his big sack full of gifts.
In 1993, Santa Claus come down the chimney with his sack and is ready to distribute the presents under the tree. In the background is the cosy fireplace where the children of the family carefully have hung their socks ready to receive gifts.
The Santa Claus Christmas plate from 1994 really rounds off the story, depicting Santa as he reads Christmas stories for all of the children in the house.
