Bing & Grondahl plates with poems and songs
Acton Friis has designed the beautiful Bing & Grondahl plates with Danish songs and poems. The plates have a beautiful white border with the text of the poem or song written on the bottom and in the top is a beautiful decorated rim. Acton Friis has also decorated some of Bing & Grondahl Easter Plates, which are made in the same style as the poet plates.
The B & G plates with songs and poems remind us of some of our old Danish texts. Jutland between the twain seas is a poem by Hans Christian Andersen, written in 1859 on a trip from Randers to Viborg with the melody of PA Heise from 1860. In the poem H.C. Andersen writes about Jutlands beautiful and unspoilt heathland, which is depicted on the design of the plate. Below is the full text of the song:
Jutland between the twain seas
as a rune stone is layed
Runes are barrows
in the middle of the forest splendor,
and the unit really great,
Here, where the desert view -
desert view lives.
Jutland, you're the mainland,
Highlands with forest solitude!
Wild in the west with marram grass sand
rises in the retrieved location.
Baltic Sea and North Sea water
embraced Skagen -
of Skagen sand.
the moore, yes, it is scarcely credible,
but even came, inspect it a little:
heather is a magnificent carpet,
flowers swarm miles.
Hurry, come on! a few years
the moore as a cornfield -
as a wheat field stands.
Between the farms
Once steam dragon fly will,
where now Loki his flocks
drives forests grow.
Britons flying over the sea,
guests here Prince Hamlet -
Here Prince Hamlet's grave.
Jutland between the twain seas
as a rune stone is laid
past legacy of your graves,
Future folds out your power,
sea of its full chest
singing loudly about Jutland -
high on the coast of Jutland.
Denmark has through the ages been penetrated by enemies and we have lost large parts of our neighboring countries. The text "Wonderful Denmark stringers and alley" is a remedy for the brave Danish soldiers who fought in some of these wars.
One of the hymns that are still well known today is BS Ingemanns "Peace rests over town and country" from 1823, which Rudolph Bay wrote the tune for in 1827 and Thomas Laub renewed in 1922.
Also, our national anthem is pictured on one of Bing & Grondahl poet plates. The song is a tribute to our country's history and population, and it is known by virtually every Dane. The National Anthem is often abbreviated, so we only sing the first verse and the last four lines of the last verse.
