Royal Copenhagen plaquettes with motifs from Hans Christian Andersen fairytales
To celebrate the jubilee of Hans Christian Andersen in 2005 Royal Copenhagen published several effects related to Hans Christian Andersen and his popular fairy tales. The six Hans Christian Andersen plaquettes, where the motif fills the entire plaquette, were released at this time. The plaquettes depict the Ugly Duckling, Thumbelina, The Little Mermaid, The Brave Tin Soldier, The Little Match girl and The Emperor's New Clothes. These six fairytales are some of the most famous fairy tales in Denmark and abroad. The plaquettes are popular in countries where the Hans Christian Andersen fairytales are much appreciated. The six Hans Christian Andersen plaquettes were discontinued in 2007, but already in 2008, a new series of plaquettes with Hans Christian Andersen fairytales was released.
These Royal Copenhagen Hans Christian Andersen plaquettes were based on the six small Hans Christian Andersen figurines, which were released in connection with his anniversary in 2005. The motifs of the plaquettes are framed by a decorative border with hearts and leaves, and the motif itself shows the character in its element. For example we see the Swineherd and the Princess together with the pigs and the Sandman on the floor next to a teddy bear.
