Millennium characters from Royal Copenhagen

To mark the millennium in 2000, Royal Copenhagen made the Millennium series consisting of a Millennium plate, a Millennium plaquette and two Millennium figurines, published every year from 2000 to 2005. The recurring characters on plaquette, plate and figurines are Frederick and Emma, expressing hope for the future.

Millennium figurines from 2000

On the first Millennium plate we see Emma and Frederick sitting on a bench with their arms around each other, looking longingly into the horizon. They have the whole world in front of them and are excited to know what it will bring for them. Royal Copenhagen Millennium figurines show Emma sitting on the bench with her teddy bear next to her while she looks up at the sky. Frederik is sitting with his arm around a football looking at the sky too.

Millennium figurines from 2001

In 2001 we see the Millennium figurines from the plate on their magic carpet. Frederik is sitting with a book or a map in front of him, while the teddy bear is holding him tight. They're both looking down to the ground, so they can keep an eye on what is going on. The millennium figurine of Emma is sitting on her magic carpet with a white dove on her hand. The white dove is seen on all Royal Copenhagen Millennium plates, as a sign of and hope for peace on earth.

Millennium figurines from 2002

The Millennium figurines from Royal Copenhagen 2002 show Frederick and Emma together with a young panda. The panda is often one of our favorite animals because it looks like a big, cosy teddy bear - but unfortunately it is endangered. The Panda is living in the wild in some forests in China, so we must assume Emma and Frederick have flown to China with their magic carpets. Royal Copenhagen Millennium figurine Emma is sitting with a panda cub on her lap, while Frederick feeds it with bamboo branches and leaves.

Millennium figurines from 2003

In 2003 the Royal Copenhagen Millennium figurines Emma and Frederik are at the beach. Emma sits in the sand surrounded by starfish and fossils with a small turtle on her lap and a teddy bear at her side. Millennium figurine Frederik is riding on a big turtle.

Millennium figurines from 2004

Millennium Figurine Emma from 2004 is sitting on a bench in the forest surrounded by beautiful pink butterflies. Millennium Figurine Frederick from 2004 sits on a bench too with binoculars in his hand and a teddy bear beside him.

Millennium figurines from 2005

The last two figurines in the Royal Copenhagen Millennium series depicts Emma and Frederick in an igloo in Greenland. Frederick is starting to catch fish for dinner in a small opening in the ice. He stands with a fish in hand and the fishing rod next to him. Emma is sitting in the characteristic Greenland dress with beautiful bead embroidery at the top and warm boots. In her arms she has their faithful teddy bear, which has followed them across the world.

The designed of the figurines

Royal Copenhagen Millennium series was designed by Sven Vestergaard. Over the past several years he has been one of the most prolific designers for Royal Copenhagen. He is the designer of the well known Christmas plates and he has also created many figurines.
